drug alcohol – Apartment Hunting With a Drug Or Alcohol Addiction
Posted by Rolf Joho on Dec 24, 2009
One of the most prevalent problems in today’s society is the problem of drugs and alcohol. It certainly interferes with normal life routines and it can get pretty difficult to get things done when you are someone who is under their influence.
People who have a drug or an alcohol problem can find it difficult to hunt for an apartment, but it is no impossible. The Fair Housing Act looks at alcoholism as a disability, which means according to law means that a landlord cannot reject someone because of an alcohol problem.
However, there are problems that one might face while trying to look for a house in this condition. If you happen to use illegal or banned drug, you face the problem of being rejected by the landlord. The apartment should not be used to indulge in drugs which are not approved for usage. You can even find landlords asking you about this in the agreement and can are allowed to do this by the law itself.
It is not doubt that drugs and alcohol can change a person’s behavior. Many violent mood swings can happen and if such behavior were to affect the lease, you can be asked to vacate by the landlord. It is always best to look in for ways by which you can leave this problem completely rather than have it control your life. When renting an apartment, it can pose serious problems in getting a good apartment and you may even be asked to leave if things get over the way.
