Apply For Help With Medication – Drug Companies Are Relaxing Their Guidelines

Posted by Rolf Joho on Oct 27, 2009

Just laid off from her work and suffering from Cancer and asthma, Jerri Black faces a lot of challenging issues. As soon as she lost her job in SC a few months ago, she lost her insurance, too, and a few of her prescription drugs cost a bundle.

“Having to pick between meals, mortgage, and the light bill, I occasionally do not pick my medication,” the 32 -year-old stated. She can’t be skipping her drugs because it leaves her out of breath and light headed.

After contacting an independent prescription assistance company, she is well on her road to getting the prescription drug help that she wants. The depression and the political discussion over health care restructuring have caused more than a few of the pharmaceutical companies to loosen up their program guidelines.
Like most pharmaceutical companies Merck for instance, operates a prescription assistance program that provides drugs, for free, to patients who qualify. The person must have no presciption insurance or your health insurance coverage is lacking. A few months in the past Merck increased the earnings guidelines from 200 percent of the federal poverty level to 400 percent.

Two other organizations, Pfizer Inc. and AstraZeneca P.L.C., a short time ago announced they would slacken their guidelines and let unemployed people to sign up, regardless of how much they used to earn. They still need to supply proof that they are unemployed.

Rules and regulations remains a main impediment, however, as a lot of persons require prescription medicine from a number of companies and each company has their specific form that you have to fill out. It’s often a complex process and every drug company is a little different. For the most part organizations want the doctor of medicine to take part in the process and most still require evidence of earnings. Denials for not finishing the forms perfectly are not uncommon.

The Partnership for Prescription Assistance, an industry-sponsored group, says it has assisted over 5,1  million people over the last three  years locate programs that assist individuals without insurance get their prescription medication for free.
At the moment, she uses several different methods to get the help with prescriptions that she desires. She buys two  of the generic prescription medication she needs at Sam’s club for $4 each, per month and two  of the especially high-priced brand name medication she gets for free directly from the pharmaceutical company.

She is still looking for employment and states “I’ll take anything”. The previous time she worked was in the fitting division for the phone company. However, she is fortunate to have some help.”I am out of work and I have no insurance” she said. “Being able to acquire help with prescription medicine is incredible.”
